Class of 1976...
We are starting a new way to keep up with your address, etc. We have formed a group Arlington Heights Yellow Jackets Class of 1976 on Facebook. I know what you are thinking because I did too...Facebook is for the younger crowd. Not anymore...Please just try it. It is free and easy. As soon as you join...invite Elizabeth Howard Simmons to be your friends and I will invite you to be in the alumni group. It is quick and easy and a great way to brag on the kids and grandkids. There are quite of few of us already on it. If you can't figure it out..ask your kids. :) Thanks and hope to see you there!
Shelly Bourland Steig:
Elizabeth,
I've already shown my kids I'm as cool as they are:) Plus facebook is a great place for sanctioned spying. When your kids and their friends invite you, you can keep up with what they are doing:)
|
Facebook:
Houk, Cari Cook, Shelly B, Lill, Staples, Eric L.,Suzanne, Becky Middleton, Joe Oliver, Pete Santana, Gail Hatfield, are all on now....
|
Houk:
If Elizabeth says we need to do this, then do like I always do and say "Yes, Mam" and do it!!! Elizabeth set my account up, and I'm slowly figuring it out! I've always assumed this site was for teenagers, but for Sherry and I, this will be a great way tom learn about Facebook and privacy settings as my sons reach the age to have these Internet tools for socializing. It will also be a great way to stay in touch, even for the older generation (that's us!).
|
E:
Over 25 people have signed up now!
|
E:
ok, now 50..be sure and get signed up!

Ralph Daniel and Susan Stultz Davis....better than ever!
Ralph:
Hey --- somebody photoshopped 25 extra pounds on me. Susan looks great though, doesn't she !!!!
|
.:
Whoever did that made your forehead bigger too!
|
Ralph:
I know !!! What's up with that???
|
Houk:
Ralph- Whoever made the ANONYMOUS crack about your expanded forehead is probably bald and doesn't want to take the heat about their own 50 year old hairline!!! Must be from another class.
|
.:
nope...I've got a head FULL of hair and I am in this class....some of us are just lucky I guess...
|
Houk:
I know who you are! :)
|
Houk:
You're our little blonde hottie that just turned 50! "Aunt Lizzie"
|
Houk:
I'm swimming! I wouldn't miss you in a thong bikini!

Hi AHHS Seniors '76!
It was so wonderful to see some of you this weekend! Since I didn't get to come to the 30th Reunion I have been especially missing you.
I love that our Seniors '76 group can continue to be a family and source of support for each other! What a blessing.
David, it was wonderful to see you all healthy and well, and I am continuing to pray for Teresa. Kelly and Padi, it was so great to visit with you and hear an update on Teresa. Elizabeth, you are amazing!
I am looking forward to keeping in touch with you all better now!
Love,
Ellen (Gillis) Carpenter
David Houk:
It was great to see you too, Ellen! Great to see everyone!
|
Chris Amos:
Ellen. Pardon me for not recognizing you right away. It has been a long time, you know. Houk, you are cool and it was good to visit with you because I did not see you at the 20 and I did not make all of the 30. "Uncle Bill" Barber was especially cool to see. I can picture Bill right now leaning on the wall of the patio with one knee up - Skipping class.... Ahhh, the good ol days.
|
Elizabeth:
Ellen, it was great seeing you and your sweet husband...I will be going to Austin more now that my Austin is living there again...we will have to get together..
|
Ellen:
Elizabeth -
I would love that!

Congrats, Kathi. You are a braver person than I (and a hell of a lot smarter).

With notes and thoughts of teachers passing it made me think of my favorite whom I owe so much to and have inquired of in the past. I can not find any details if she is alive or not. Does anyone know about Millie Thompson (Miss T) the journalism teacher?
Lori:
Eugenia "Gene" Thompson, passed away Oct. 29, 2003.
|
Chris:
Thank you Lori. Bless her heart. I keep her memory alive by talking about her when people ask how I got started in journalism. In 1998 or 99 I tried hard to find her, but I could not locate her. I just wanted to say "Thank you, Miss T."

Alas, we have lost another teacher - Mr. Arseneau. He always made biology fun. Anyone who had him remembers his famous lectures. In particular was my favorite about him standing on the porch outside of his classroom in the annex building and observing students French kissing in between classes ("slobbering in each other's mouths"). Then he proceeded to name all the bacteria in human mouths and maintained that dogs have cleaner mouths than humans by identifying a much shorter list of bacteria.

David:
I saw that too. We've got to stop reading the obits!!!
|
Cindy:
I think we're showing our age . . Kenny reads them every day!!
|
Toni:
I remember Mr. Arseneau, I maybe one of the students he saw kissing! (laughing)
I read the obits daily myself, but it's not because I'm getting old, I am next to the youngest in this class(48)HaHa! I use to work at a funeral home, it's just a habit now.

Hi everyone - hope to get to the Original this Saturday. Is it just me or is Christmas coming earlier each year?
Another sad note: Mrs. Austin (girls P.E.) passed away late November. I believe she was 82.
I was SO disrespectful to her and I regret it. Rest in peace, Mrs. Austin.

Hi all,
I got an email from my sister today that Dona Stoval was found dead this morning. Apparently, she kept in touch with Dixie Cunningham and they last spoke on Wednesday evening saying she didn't feel well and was going to bed. They are unsure if she passed away Wed. night or Thursday. I will post more when I know it.
Ralph:
That's sad news. How old was she? I'm sure that a number of our high school teachers and faculty have gone on to a better place. A lot of them must be nearing their 80's or older. Thanks for sharing the news.
|
Lori:
She was 76. She was definitely an icon at AHHS - quite unforgettable. I let Larry Barnes (Latin teacher) know. Here's what he said about her: "i am sorry to hear of dona lee's passing. she was a fantastic chemistry teacher who gave great background preparation for college-bound students...she was truly a one-of-a-kind legendary teacher. everyone has at least one story to tell about her."
|
John McKee:
How very sad. I, like many, have my "Dona Lee" stories. But I remember hearing how hard and difficult she was. Yet, when I had her in class, she was just as professional and helpful as any other teacher I had. And always very nice to me.
Rest in peace, Miss Stovall...

Hello everyone, Liz I spoke with 6 of our classmates, and they told me they would be there on December 8th.
E:
Sounds great Toni...let's plan on meeting around 3 pm and on. Nice shopping break. People can come for lunch first OR stay for dinner later and it shouldn't interfere with other Christmas plans but should give everyone a chance to at least say HI. Leaving the country this morning for two weeks so will send an email then.

Well, here is a picture of our little Halloween angels. And David, as for us "older parents" (or was that suppose to be "parents of older kids"?!) we didn't miss out on a thing. Nothing is better than trick or treating with your children and grandchildren . . that's the best! And Ralph, Skylar is a cutie!
Ralph:
Thanks Ya'll!! Those are a couple of cute little grandkids you have there too! My job now is to be sure I don't become a grandparent anytime soon. Drew just turned 15 and.... well you remember how it was!!!
|
David:
Come on, Cindy... you MUST be much older than me since my boys are only 9 and 10 and your boys are grown!!! Didn't I go to school with your younger sister? :)
|
Cindy:
Oh that was bad, Mr.I Qualify For AARP Next Month!!! But that's okay because it looks like your memory might be starting to fade (early signs of Alzheimer's, ya know?!) No, I didn't have a younger sister..that WAS me that you went through school with - all the way back to elementary! I think maybe you're getting me confused with someone else or it could be that I just seemed so much younger! After all, Old Man, you really are SEVERAL months older than I am!!
|
Cindy:
And Ralph, now that you have a 15yr old boy, we will be praying for you for the next several years! After having two, 3yrs apart, you couldn't pay us to go through the teens again (they were just like their father)!
|
David:
Cindy- That's what I've always liked about you... you were spunky then and your spunky now!!! It's given Kenny a few gray hairs though!
If Drew has Ralph's hormones... look out!!!
I'll see you all at The Original.
|
Cindy:
David, I've had to have spunk just to be able to live with 3 males for 21 years!! Looking forward to seeing everyone!

As you all may have noticed we have still been getting spam. About a year ago I added the little letters you had to add to post. Then they created software to read those letters and start spamming again. I have now added a question that has to be answered to prove you are a person and not spam posting software. It should reduce the porn etc..
Grateful:
Thanks Eric...and we really appreciate all your work on this...it allows us to all keep in touch!
|
Lori:
Eric - thanks so much!!!
